Kosovar president wants better economic ties

TIRANA, Nov 5 – Kosova’s President Fatmir Sejdiu, accompanied with a large government delegation, held a three-day visit to Albania in his first trip as a head of an independent country.
President Sejdiu held talks with Albania’s President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli on bilateral political, social, economic and educational cooperation.
Topi said that “Kosovo has been recognized by the most important countries in the world and its independence is something that cannot be turned back and as such there can be no scenarios for the partition of Kosova. The implementation of the EULEX mission in all the country will bring stability to all political lines.”
The Albanian president said he considered the visit of his Kosovar counterpart as historic and praised the relationship between the two countries.
The Kosovar President said that integration into EU and NATO remain a goal for both countries. He also expressed optimism that new recognitions of Kosovo would follow soon.
Sejdiu insisted during his meetings that the economic relations between the two countries should reach the level of their political ones.
Sejdiu and his hosts exchanged ideas on European and NATO integration for countries, regional cooperation and the future perspectives of Kosova, including its efforts of getting more recognition since its independence Feb. 17.
The visit is the first as head of state that Sejdiu has made outside of Kosova. The Kosova president argued that integration into EU and NATO remain a goal for both countries. He also expressed optimism that new recognitions of Kosova would follow soon. Sejdiu also addressed parliament.
Sejdiu was awarded the Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu medal from his counterpart and also declared an Honorary Citizen in northern Shkodra.
Together with his Albanian counterpart, President Sejdiu visited the construction site where a road connecting Albania and Kosova is being built.
