MOSCOW, Oct 6 – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed extreme concern about the Albanian prime minister’s recent statement to the effect that the time has come for the unification of all territories where Albanians live, and about his call on the European Union and NATO to react appropriately to it.
“We are strongly alarmed by the Albanian prime minister’s statement. We are convinced that this statement must receive a due reaction, first of all on the part of the European Union and NATO,” Lavrov said at a news conference on Monday after talks with his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremic.
“We have yet to hear this reaction,” Lavrov said.
“I do hope all the necessary work is being done on this issue with the Albanian leadership pending public statements from the European capitals,” he said
The same concern was expressed last month from Belgrade as well.
But Berisha and Tirana have made it clear those words were in line with the integration efforts of both countries, namely Albania and Kosovo, and their hopes that the whole Balkan region was integrated into the European Union and NATO.
