TIRANA, Nov 4 – In what seems to be another flare-up of the political fight in the country, the opposition Socialist Party said Wednesday that their former lawmaker, Fatmir Xhindi, was killed for political reasons.
In early May Xhindi was murdered at the door of his home in Roskovec.
There is no official reason yet but the opposition Socialist parliamentarian Gramoz Ruci said that after six months the only reason remained the political one, further denouncing the government and police for keeping quite or giving no response to the crime.
Responding to that police denied such a claim saying that would not help the investigation process.
Spokeswoman Laura Totraku urged the opposition and everyone else to offer any evidence they may have, thus helping to speed up of the process.
Xhindi’s murder was one of the three fatal deaths happening just before the June 28 parliamentary election which is now being contested by the opposition.
The Socialists, who have won 64 seats in the 140-seat parliament, are boycotting its work, asking for an investigation of a number of ballot boxes.
Governing Democrats accept the creation of the commission but not the opening of the boxes, fearing that could change the result of the vote that would later push the opposition to ask for fresh elections.
