TIRANA, Aug 17 – A former military official claimed that announcing a lifting of one-year obligatory military service by 2010 was premature and would discourage new recruits. The government decided, last week, that beginning in 2010 the army would turn into a fully professional one, thus citizens would no longer be obliged to serve for one year in the army.
Men from 18-27 year old are now obligated to serve in the army.
Former official Zyhdi Kroi said that decision was hasty and would demoralize new recruits. (Tirana Times Staff)
