TIRANA, July 8 – The Coalition of Domestic Observers said they had noticed fewer problems than in the past in how the national general elections were held, according to a report they issues about Albania’s June 23 polls.
They noted that there have been few cases of competing electoral subjects alleging irregularities. The Coalition of Domestic Observers loosely monitored the progress of the complaint process and noted that the CEC and the Electoral College were covering very few cases of complaints, which do not affect the essence of the whole process.
But they also noted some very important issues to be dealt with till the next elections.
They said that the fact that the CEC was not fully operational, missing the necessary number of members to have a qualified decision, may affect the certification of the electoral process.
They also noted that family voting was noted in many areas – referring to the process in which one family member voted for all family members.
They suggested that the political parties should amend the electoral code to deal with some of the issues observed.
