TIRANA, Jan. 11 – The Albanian government has asked Macedonia to increase the level of Ohrid Lake, which in turn would reduce the flow of water into the Crni Dim River. Albanian Energy Minister Dritan Prifti said the request comes from measures taken by Albanian government for reducing massive floods in the northwestern part of the country.
But the request got a negative answer as Skopje feared that would in turn flood its areas around the lake.
Macedonia on Saturday decided to send assistance to neighboring Albania to help it cope with flooding in the northwestern region.
Vice Premier Abdulaqim Ademi said at a special cabinet session that his country would provide pumps, rubber boats and tents to its neighbor.
“The government will continue to monitor developments in the flooded area and is ready to provide medical assistance or food aid if needed,” Ademi said
