GJIROKASTRA – The most successful people are those who are good at Plan B, goes an old saying. But plan B of a 55 year-old cultivator of marijuana did not work that well. Njazi Bushi, of Erind, a village in Gjirokastra, was arrested for cultivating cannabis sativa in his own bedroom.
The police found 52 sprouts of the narcotic plant hidden between Bushi’s bedroom furniture, said Gentian Mullai, spokesperson of the Gjirokastra Police Department. The sprouts were 50-120 cm high, and they had been experiencing a rapid growth, police said.
Bushi used to take the plants out in the sun during the day, to then put them inside his bedroom in the evening, investigators said.
The 52 plants would have been enough to produce 40 kg of processed hashish, investigators said. Taking into consideration that one kg of hashish goes for around EUR 300, Bushi would earn EUR12,000, police said.
Bushi’s arrest came after information the police received through its operative network. The police departments of Gjirokastra, Tepelene, and Permet have started an operation coded “Annihilation” that targets the cultivators of narcotic plants. As a result, 5,080 sprouts of suspect plants have been burnt, while only two people have been held responsible.
