TIRANA, Jan. 31 – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta headed the Albanian delegation at the London Conference on Afghanistan held last week, where the international community tried to coordinate the military and civilian resources in the context of a political strategy for the protection and security in Afghanistan.
The Conference was attended by Foreign Ministers of the International Force for Security and Assistance countries, Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and other countries with regional influence. Also this conference was attended by NATO, UN, EU representatives and other international organizations as the World Bank.
Meta has said that this important Conference will give a new impetus to the commitment of the international coalition in Afghanistan and Albania, as one of the first seven contributing countries, will continue its contribution alongside its allies for the maintenance of peace and a safer future for the Afghan people.
Representatives of 70 countries and international organizations attending this conference agreed that stability and security in Afghanistan is very important for the safety of everyone and that Afghanistan should not be left in the hands of the brutal Taliban regime.
All the agreements between the international community and Afghanistan signed in London will serve to increasing local capacity to ensure the sovereignty of all territory and economic prosperity and security for all Afghan people, playing simultaneously a constructive role in the region, according to a statement of the Foreign Ministry.
Meta met with many counterparts of other countries like British Minister for Europe Chris Bryant, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, and Greek Alternative Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas, who praised Albania’s role so far in Afghanistan.
Meta assured them that Albania would continue to be on the side of the international allies, in achieving the common goal in Afghanistan.
