TIRANA, March 9 – Foreign Minister Ilir Meta held a dinner meeting with ambassador of the Mediterranean countries.
Meta emphasized the importance that Albania pays to cooperation with these countries, which represents a relatively new development in the country’s foreign policy, with new and numerous inter-active, exchange and cooperation potentials on significant issues for the country, the Mediterranean region and wider.
Meta said that “we view cooperation in the Mediterranean context as an added value of our foreign policy and as a complementary part of our integration process.”
The minister believed the new developments related to the establishment of institutional structures, as in the case of the Secretariat General in Barcelona shall provide a new impetus to the cooperation in the region guiding it towards concrete projects and results.
He said Albania aimed at increasing its participation not only in forums of political dialogue, but also on those of concrete cooperation in the areas of economy, culture, education and others.
“To this end we have prepared a concrete working plan, which does also include the possibility of organizing a Ministerial Meeting in the field of energy or culture in Albania”.
Spanish Ambassador Manuel Montobbio emphasized the primary goals of the Mediterranean cooperation targeted at translating ideas into a reality, with a view to set up an area of peace, cross-cultural dialogue and prosperity in the Mediterranean.
