TIRANA, Feb. 11 – Ilir Meta of the opposition Socialist Movement for Integration said on Monday that the parliament should set a “more concrete and active agenda” on moving towards European integration.
The commission met to discuss the main issues discussed at the annual report on Albania’s progress published at the end of last year.
The gap between Albanian legislation and European requirements may need emergency measures to stabilize such a process, according to Meta.
He also asked the government to offer a more concrete strategy on corruption, which remains a main area of criticism from world institutions to Albanian authorities and politics. Bregu, on her part, noted they high marks given from international counterparts on the seriousness of the reforms undertaken by her government.
The minister said that Albania was no longer considered to have a negative image in the international community.
She also claimed that last year the government had fulfilled 70 percent of the requests and legal initiatives set forth in the Stabilization and Association Agreement, which the country signed with the European Union two years ago.
