TIRANA, July 6 – Former President Alfred Moisiu said that politics was misusing the lustration draft law on opening files of the former communist secret police, Sigurimi, in order to cover other crises in the country.
“To cover noises another one was thrown,” he said.
Moisiu said that such a law had to pass since the fall of communism. However, he doubted the law would be passed and later applied normally.
“I believe such a noise now aims at covering Gerdec because Gerdec became an international issue,” he said.
The former president said the Gerdec March 15 blast could have been avoided with proper measures, also adding that military personnel should not be blamed for a move they were not involved in.
He also was against firing three general, at a time when the country has only 9, who had no role in the blast. He said the law was passed by the government, thus calling it a political decision. The explosion occurred at a time when the country had two other military facilities to dispose of excess ammunition, he added.
“I believe that high political spheres were involved,” he said. The former president also said that ‘small fish” should not be blamed at a time when ‘big fish’ should be held responsible.
Moisiu expressed his disbelief that the investigation would proceed normally.
She (Prosecutor general Ina Rama) will not find it easy, he said, because she has to cope with politics.
Moisiu also criticized the governing majority of Prime Minister Sali Berisha for trying to usurp the authority of the country’s president, while trying to exert their influence on the selection of the new Supreme Court judges, which was delayed after presidential decrees were turned down by the parliament last month.
Moisiu also criticized the country’s politicians for their behavior over reforming the electoral process, often turning it into a shortcoming in the country’s integration process.
