TIRANA, Sep. 20 – A general assembly of the Albanian Muslim Community ruling body reconfirmed Selim Muca as its leader, following a challenge to his leadership.
The meeting came after some frictions in the leadership when some members of the General Muslim Council, the community’s leadership committee accused him of abuse of post.
The council unanimously reaffirmed Muca when 79 out of 89 members in total discussed behind closed doors and then voted in his favor.
The meeting also removed from their posts the general secretary of the Albanian Muslim Community, the mufti of Durres and Tirana, and the mufti of Kukes.
They then unanimously appointed the new leaders.
Another important decision was the opening of a theological university in Albania.
The Albanian Muslim Community was founded in 1923.
