TIRANA, July 7 – Former prime minister, and leader of the main opposition Socialist Party, Fatos Nano was seen at the working session of the parliament on Monday after a long absence. Nano has practically abandoned political life with only rare moments of participation. The local media also said his presence at the parliament was made so that he did not lose his lawmaker’s mandate and the monthly salary he receives.
A lawmaker loses his seat if he is absent from parliament for six months without an approved reason. Nano has rarely been in parliament since 2002 when he left the post of premier and also party leader. He reportedly spends much of his time with his family in Vienna. (Tirana Times Staff)
