TIRANA, June 14 – Defense Minister Gazmend Oketa took part in the meeting of defense ministers of NATO member countries last week, the first time an Albanian official participated at that level following the membership invitation the country received at the bloc’s April summit.
The meeting discussed road security among its members.
An important issue for NATIO was the participation of KFOR troops in Kosova. The alliance has pledged to further continue its role even after local authorities take the situation under their control.
NATO will also assist Kosova in building its institutions and ensure the safety of those living in the territory, including the Serb minority.
During the visit, Oketa also discussed the disposal of some 100,000 tons of excess ammunition remaining in post-communist Albania and other issues concerning the reform of the Albanian army as the country moves towards full NATO membership.
Oketa also met with NATO Secretary General and others. (Tirana Times Staff)
