As of Monday, the 20th of July 2009, the monetary authority of Albania, the Bank of Albania (BoA), put into circulation a new banknote of 200 Albanian Lek련ALL). This banknote bears the signature of the new governor of the BoA, Ardian Fullani, the emission year 2007, and has improved security elements reports the local press (Albania, Republika, RD, 21.07.2009). The former banknote, bearing the emission year 2001, already included a number of security elements which corresponded to the state of the art at that time. The new 200 ALL banknote has the same design and format as the former banknote. Quantities of the older banknote have been degraded and will be progressively replaced by the new emission.
The decision for the new release of the new note was taken in 2006. The new banknote has reinforced coins and a better-protected surface. State of the art improvements of security include a larger security band in median position and a better relief-work especially on parts containing numbers or writings. Both the former issue and the new issue will be valid and concurrent in payments throughout the country.
