TIRANA, Dec. 12 – The three-day seminar of the Institute of Public Health showed that fighting pollution in the country would be made with planting new green areas and also strict application of the legislation on the use of fuel imported in the country. Creating a good environment is not only good for the Albanian citizens but also a demand from the European Union which Albania is trying to get integrated. Car fuel has been one of the main polluters of the Albanian air as they use very bad diesel fuel. The allowed level of pollution by PM 10 in seven main cities in the country is significantly higher than the European Union levels. It is believed that in Tirana that causes a 1.5-2 years of life reduced. Increasing the green areas until it reaches 40-50 square meters per person is another important factor to help fight pollution. That may be achieved in less than 20 years. Capital Tirana and central Elbasan are the most polluted areas. Pollution in Tirana is two times higher than allowed norms in the country and three times higher than those of the EU countries. Road construction is another negative factor for that. Crossroad at 21 Dhjetori in Tirana and the metallurgical plant in Elbasan are the most polluted areas.
