TIRANA, Dec 9 – Main Opposition Socialist Party leader Edi Rama on Tuesday accused the government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party of corruption and abuse with properties.
Exploiting the international day against corruption, Rama said that the Gerdec tragedy, where 26 people died from a blast at an ammunition disposal factory, the abuse with the Durres-Kukes road contracts and the property issue were clear proof of the government’s ongoing corruption.
Rama reminded Albanians that the Democrats came to power in 2005 based upon their promise to fight corruption.
“Coming out of the tunnel (of corruption) is impossible with Sali Berisha at the head of the government,” said Rama.
In response, the Democratic Party spokesman accused Rama, also Tirana mayor, of claims that he asks for 15 percent of the funding for any approved project in his administration.
Corruption remains a main target of political abuse in post-communist Albania where politicians accuse each other but never take each other to court for their claims.
