TIRANA, Aug 18 – The main opposition Socialist Party said Monday that Prime Minister Sali Berisha had put under his personal control the country’s only public television station and was exploiting it to enhance his personal image.
Marko Bello, a Socialist lawmaker, said that the public TV station had turned into Berisha’s tool to only promote the achievements of a failed government and also to cover up corruption in the executive.
Bello said the TV station had turned into a typical ‘Bolshevik loudspeaker,’ trumpeting the achievements of the governing political party at a time when everything they do is failing.
He added that two top editors had resigned or moved from their posts due to the internal fight between top leaders in the Democratic Party.
The lawmaker said the TV station had recently broadcast lengthy special editions on Berisha and parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli, highlighting for their ‘tourism’ during a visit abroad.
