STRASBOURG, June 28 – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe appointed Dick Marty (Switzerland) to prepare a report on the allegedly inhumane treatment of people and illicit trafficking in human organs in Kosova.
Marty will visit the region to gather information before presenting his conclusions to the 318-member Assembly.
A group of 17 parliamentarians earlier signed a motion asking the Assembly to look into the allegations, which appear in a recent book by the former Prosecutor of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Carla del Ponte.
Albania has strongly rejected such allegations, saying there is no proof to support del Ponte’s claims and also inviting the international community to again investigate the case. (Tirana Times Staff)
