TIRANA, July 16 – The two main parliamentary political parties, the governing Democratic party and the main opposition Socialist Party, agreed to work together to create a joint draft of the lustration law that has been recently debated.
The law committee of the parliament nominated two lawmakers, one from each party, to work upon a new draft law on lustration and present it soon. Aldo Bumci of the Democrats and Arben Isaraj of the Socialists will have four drafts prepared by political parties and lawmakers which they should coordinate, or create a new one.
The political opponents have been debating some articles of the different drafts, though all have agreed upon the need of the law.
Such a debate has also sparked criticism when lawmakers accused each other of being part of the former Sigurimi secret police during the communist regime. (Tirana Times Staff)
