TIRANA, Nov 3 – Parliament will have until mid-November to complete its work on the new electoral code that has been debated in recent months.
The parliamentary commission on electoral reform has time until Nov. 14 to complete its work.
The commission was created in June but lawmakers had to twice extend its operating time to let it reach a compromise between the two political groups in working out a new electoral code.
The code is needed to be completed prior to general elections expected in June next year.
International institutions have made it clear that holding free and fair elections, in line with international standards, is a precondition for the country’s integration efforts into the euro-Atlantic institutions.
