TIRANA, Sept. 15, 2022 – The year 2022 promises to be Albania’s best ever in terms of tourism revenue, according to data by the central bank and the country’s official statistics body.

Data published by Bank of Albania shows that for the first six months of the year the income from foreign tourists was calculated at 1.13 billion euros, over 440 million euros more compared to the same period last year.

The record income reflects the increase in foreign visitors, according to Instat data, which indicated that for the first seven months of the year 3.9 million foreign visitors entered Albania, about 40 percent more than the same period last year.

Experts note the large increase is explained by the pent up demand from the pandemic restrictions and several other changes, such as an increase in direct flights from more diversified places as well as special sports and cultural events like the final of the UEFA Conference League.

Tourism sector analysts urge businesses and officials not to rest on their laurels as the challenge will be to keep visitors coming back as the world removes all pandemic barriers but faces major economic challenges ahead.
