Police arrest drug traffickers, other suspects

TIRANA, Dec. 12 – Police said Wednesday they had arrested two persons _ Taejon Bregu, 18, resident in Patos, and Artion Ceta, 24, in Fier who were found with four kilograms of cannabis sativa in Tirana. It is believed that was to be sold in the capital. Police arrested Monday Dritan Ramaj, 38, while he was trying to go to Italy with a ferry. Ramaj was accused of trafficking stolen vehicles. Ramaj is brother to Leonora Ramaj, who was killed last month in the port city of Vlora. It is believed that her brother had come to the country for revenge. Police stopped Tuesday six kilograms of hashish in the northeastern district of Tropoja and arrested three persons transporting it. Three Bajram Curri residents were bringing it from Kosova and they were blocked at the Qafe Morini border crossing point. Police were investigating whether they were organized in a criminal ring on both sides of the border. Earlier this year police cut some 20,000 plants of cannabis sativa in the district’s area. A couple was arrested Tuesday in the southeastern city of Korca for trying to illegally assist a woman cross the border into Greece for a certain amount of money. The couple were residents in Tirana but born in Korca. They were stopped Tuesday evening near the Kapshtica crossing point together with a woman who had paid to them 500 euros. An Italian and two Albanians were sentenced with prison terms for drug trafficking. Ludovic Salis was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment, Olsi Leka with 11 years and Enton Leka with 10 years imprisonment. They were arrested and accused as part of an international trafficking ring. Salis was arrested in the Durres port with 3.2 kilograms of heroin.
