TIRANA, March 22 – Police seized one ton of marijuana on the Albanian coast on Saturday evening following close cooperation with Italian police.
A speedboat had arrived from Italy to get the drug produced in Albania. The shipment of marijuana was seized in the bay of Kakome close to Saranda. It was earmarked for the Italian drug market.
In another operation police arrested Andi Hambari, 22, in the capital Tirana after finding him with one gram of heroin. More heroin, up to 266 grams, was found at his home packed and ready to be sold.
In Fier police found two kilograms of heroin and arrested Rafael and Altjon Troka in their car transporting the drugs from Fier to Vlora.
Albania is said to be a center where a large amount of cannabis sativa is produced and also has served as a transit point for heroin coming from Afghanistan.
