TIRANA, March 23 – More police efforts to stop drug trafficking have resulted in successes around the country and also abroad.
In the southern city of Gjirokastra, close to the Greek border, police found 130 kilograms of hashish but could not arrest its owners who ran away when they saw the police check point near Lazarat village.
The drug traffickers exploited the darkness Monday evening to run away. Police have declared them at large and have issued an arrest warrant.
On the other side of the border, in Greece, police announced the destruction of a Greek -Albanian gang. They arrested three persons, two of them Albanians, after finding 137 kilograms of cannabis sativa. Police believe they were paid 1,000 Euros each for transporting the drug.
In northern Shkodra police arrested a 37-year old person who was sentenced by an Italian court to 14 years imprisonment for drug trafficking. That was the result of a joint operation of the Albanian-Italian police.
In another operation in Malesi e Madhe, north of Shkodra, police sequestered 17.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa near the border with Montenegro. They were still investigating to identify the persons involved in that traffic.
