TIRANA, Feb. 14 – Police are keeping a very close eye on alleged suspects who try to exploit the electoral campaign time period with increased criminal acts.
Police said they arrested a group of persons who tried to smuggle drugs from Albania into Montenegro. The police operation was held in four districts: Tirana, Fier, Mallakaster and Vlora, where they arrested six persons, two of them students. Some 52 kilograms of marijuana was confiscated at their premises.
On Tuesday police arrested Ermal Sulmina, 27, in Tirana with 11 grams of heroin and was accused of trafficking drugs.
The same day police arrested two persons, allegedly constructing businessemen who have not given apartments to clients who had paid their money and who were also owners of the land on which the building was set.
Elton Mece, 25, and a Romanian named Alina Ailoaei, 20, were arrested after found with 880 grams of cannabis sativa at their apartment in Cerrik. Police were told their apartment served as a prostitution center.
In Tirana police arrested Saba Osmani, 41, after he hit his wife with a knife causing her death. He had later tried to commit suicide by swallowing a considerable amount of medicine.
Three persons: Kristal Basha, 24, Indrit Hakorja, 27, and Perparim Prenga, 30, were stopped by police at Mother Teresa airport trying to cross the border with fake Greek and German Schengen visas.
Also at Mother Teresa airport police arrested Thoma Curri., 52, a wanted person for damaging the water supply network.
Abdulla Killi was also arrested in Tirana for drug trafficking, while Sara Dedaj, 29 was arrested for producing false documents like passports and birth certificates.
A newborn baby was found abandoned at Elbasani street in Tirana and was taken to the maternity home. Police are investigating who could be the mother of the baby.
Shpresa Kodra, 44, and Liza Demaj, 43, were sued for producing false documents to get a pension.
Leonard Zifle, 27, was found with a fake Schengen visa and stopped at Mother Teresa international airport.
Genci Medi, 34, on Monday was extradited from Greece and he is to serve 22 years of imprisonment for killing one person and trying to murder another one. Medi was also sentenced by Greek justice to 12 years imprisonment for violent sexual acts in the Greek territory.
Police also reported that Agim Cela, 23, was arrested in Greece and is expected to be extradited to Albania after being sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment for a murder.
British police arrested Vullnet Mucelli, 36, who had been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for a murder. Authorities have started the extradition procedure. Shkelqim Beqiraj, 27, was arrested Friday in Foggia, Italy. Beqiraj had been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for murdering two persons in a blood feud case. He is expected to be extradited to Albania soon.
