TIRANA, July 10 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha met Tuesday with the president of TERNA S.p.a Italian company, Flavio Cattaneo, in an effort to urge him to invest in the country’s power industry that has been suffering a continuous crisis in the recent years.
Berisha spoke about the possibilities of extending the power generating capacity, privatization of the distribution network, and especially strengthening the transmission and distribution network with its links to Montenegro, Kosova and Italy.
Cattaneo expressed his company’s interest to be part of these projects and its experts would come to the country to cooperate with the local authorities to explore ways of participating.
Albania has suffered power shortages during the post-communist period since 1990, due to lack of rain (as it bases all its production on hydroelectric stations) and poor management.
