TIRANA, July 1 – The Presidential counseling team has set standards that candidates should meet to become judges of the Supreme Court.
The team presented the results of its week-long work to the President, who is supposed to be guided by the standards, while selecting the seven nominees for the court.
The counseling team was created after the parliament turned down five presidential decrees on judges’ nomination.
The experts took into consideration all the recommendations sent to them by the country’s various political forces.
The president will take the newly created standards into consideration when selecting seven nominees from 105 candidates.
The judicial experts said that new judges should have scored high marks when graduating their faculty, be experienced, have no disciplinary penalties, have moral integrity and an outstanding reputation among lawyers, available qualitative indicators of his/her work, and no conflicts of interest.
They were also required to list their property holdings. (Tirana Times Staff)
