TIRANA, Oct 13 – Prosecutor General Ina Rama said Monday that prosecutors had to apply the constitution and the law to take in front of the law anyone who broke it.
That was clearly a reaction to the recent fight her office has had with the government, which she considers a move that threatens the independence of the independent judiciary institution.
“Our main operating duty is that anyone who has committed a penal act should not escape from being taken to the legal responsibility,” said Rama during the nine-month analysis of her office.
Rama’s office has been clashing with the prime minister, the justice and interior ministries in the last week following the case of the Bosnian businessman Damir Fazlic who is being investigated on alleged money laundry in Albania.
The U.S. embassy in Tirana also warned government institutions of not violating the independence of the prosecutor’s office.
