TIRANA, Aug 26 – Sabri Godo, president of the Republican Party, the main coalition member of the governing Democratic Party-led grouping, warned that they were not prepared for the new elections next year.
Godo said that next year’s polls would find the coalition unprepared unless they find soon reach cooperation.
He asked the Democrats to immediately begin negotiations with all coalition members.
Godo also rejected any merging of his rightist party with centre-right Democrats, as other smaller political parties have suggested. A new set of constitutional amendments passed in April, setting in place the regional proportional system to be used in the next election.
Godo said that the new coalition should be unified, and each party should receive as many seats in parliament as the number of votes it has.
He urged the Democrats to be clear about how to maintain such a coalition.
Republic leader Fatmir Mediu has said that in September all coalition parties will decide how to proceed with the partnership to be presented in next year’s polls.
