SHKODRA, Nov 3 – The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, Amfollihije Radovic, visited Albania last weekend and asked that Albanian authorities to build cemeteries for Serbian and Montenegrin soldiers who died during World War I on Albanian soil.
Several thousands Serbs are believed to have died in Albania during WWI, when the Serbian army escaped from Austria’s invading armies and managed to reach the Albanian coasts and be evacuated from allied vessels.
The top Serbian priest visited villages including Vraka and Rushkull where a Montenegrin minority is believed to live.
The Montenegrin priest is a well-known opponent of Kosova independence and has been very supportive of the recent protests held in the Montenegrin capital.
