G̒DEC, Nov 4 – A farmer in the Gerdec village near capital Tirana found a shell stuck deep in his agriculture land.
The unexploded shell had remained there since the blast of March 15, 2008 at the nearby ammunition disposal factory which killed 26, injured some 300 people and destroyed or damaged thousands of houses and other buildings.
Selami Sefaj was working his land when he noted the unexploded shell with some four kilograms of explosive. He immediately told army officials who are still working in the blast area and surroundings to clean them.
Army disposal experts continue to be in the area though they have cleaned most of the surroundings.
Thousands of shells were blown about during the blast and it is very likely some others may be threatening the people living in the area.
Sefaj feared their houses and life there was still unsafe.
