Shkodra Memorial Cup 2009

The northern city of Shkodra hosted from the 11th to the 13th of April the sixth edition of the “Memorial Vllaznia” boxing tournament. Participants from France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kosov묠Montenegro and Romania competed alongside with the Albanian boxers in ten weight categories. The tournament was described as highly competitive. France and Montenegro dominated six weight categories with three champions each. Ireland won two finals and Rumania one. Albania took one of the titles with Jetmir Kuqi, a local Shkodran boxer. Jetmir Kuqi (Albania), won against Vasilios Milotis (Greece) in the light welterweight category (69 kg) and was hailed as the best boxer of the tournament.
After a short perıod of boxing practice, communist Albania formerly had prohibited this sport. Memorial Vllaznia was conceived as a tribute to the former Albanian boxers, especially those of the city of Shkod첮
