TIRANA, Dec 10 – The Embassy of Spain, in collaboration with the European University and Institute of Dialogue and Communication, organized an international seminar entitled, “The reconstruction of Democracy and the Rewriting of the Past.”
Each generation of the present rewrites its past. In societies coming out from authoritarian regimes who face the challenge of the construction and consolidation of democracy, the assumption of the recent past and the rewriting of history, constitute a challenge of recognition with one self’s, which may condition their future evolution and the way and extent of the establishment of democracy.
As one of the most renowned intellectuals of the Spanish-speaking world, Jos額arRidao has published very influential essays questioning the way history is rewritten and the perception of others.
That seminar was an opportunity to approach his thesis and discuss it together with the main participants in the intellectual life in Albania.
Diplomat, essayist and writer Jos額arRidao was born in Madrid in 1961. After completing degrees in Law and Arabic studies he entered the diplomatic service in 1987. In the following years his work took him to Angola and Equatorial Guinea and to Paris – OCDE as an embassy counselor and to Moscow as a consul.
