SHKDORA, Jan. 27 – The prosecutor’s office in northern Shkodra has started the investigation of the causes of the floods earlier this year.
Head of the Albanian Electro-Energy Corporation, KESH, Muharrem Stojku was questioned for about two hours earlier this week giving explanations on how and why they had opened the discharging doors at the three hydropower stations in the Drini River.
No criminal complaints have been made, just an investigation for now.
For two weeks this month the area was flooded from the water discharged from the three hydropower stations in the Drini River after heavy rain and snow.
More than 11,000 hectares of land and 2,500 houses were flooded.
The government said the flooding was caused by natural phenomenon but the opposition blamed it for mismanaging the power stations and also letting them accumulate water reserves in order to sell electricity at this time when its price is higher.
The three hydropower stations at the Drini River produce the bulk of electricity in the country.
