TIRANA, Dec. 14 – Police say they have arrested a 72 year old man who had sent a threatening letter and also a Molotov bottle to two prosecutors.
Though no motives were described, whatever it was it is clear that the judicial personnel in the country are under continuous threat.
Three months ago a judge was killed by a car bomb, and days later another judge was considered under threat when his brother’s car exploded.
It is true that justice in Albania has been its Achilles’ heel during the last two decades of the post-communist transition, and it is also true that many judges and prosecutors have been accused publicly and a few also legally of being bribed during their work; however, the currently evident tactics are not the way to resolve such a problem.
