TIRANA, Sep 9 – Tirana’s main medical institution, Mother Teresa hospital, has suspended conducting surgeries for more than a month following its inability to assure a stock of basic medications.
Mehdi Agolli, a doctor in the surgery department of the hospital, said on Top Channel television that the hospital has stopped regular surgeries due to the lack of the most basic medicines, adding they now only perform the most operations.
Ylli Zicishti, of the emergency department, added that his staff has been supplied with basic medications to maintain service to patients.
The local media has continuously reported, this year, that the main country’s hospital lacked medicine, a move that causes patients to purchase needed medicines at drug stores for much higher prices.
Newly appointed Health Minister, Anila Godo, has pledged to change the situation.
