TIRANA, Jan 7 – The construction of the Tirana big ring turned into a political bickering between the central government of the Democratic Party leader and Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the main opposition Socialist Party leader and Tirana Mayor Edi Rama.
Berisha said Tuesday that the government was ready to start the construction of the Tirana ring as the city hall was unable to do that. He mentioned the fact that the ring could cost up to 300 million Euros, a figure which the city hall cannot get as a loan after showing poor competencies in money collection.
The 5.5 kilometer long ring will serve to release the Tirana streets of the heavy traffic. It will take some two years to be built.
The city hall immediately responded saying they had prepared everything to start the work and urged the government to rush and compensate the properties that will be destroyed along its way.
