TIRANA, Jan. 28 – The General Prosecutor’s Office was “immersed in chaos” Monday as a dozen prosecutors, allegedly people who used to be close to former General Prosecutor Theodhori Sollaku, learned of their transfers to regional offices.
The move may also be an effort by new Prosecutor General Ina Rama for a thorough reform of the department.
The Monday actions were Rama’s first staff transfers and proposed appointments since she took over from Sollaku in October of last year. The local media considered the most controversial transfer to be Ardian Visha, former head of the foreign department. The media also reported that the prosecutor who had been investigating the alleged abuses and corruption relating to the Rreshen-Kalimash segment of the Durres-Kukes road project has also been transferred.
Panorama newspaper wrote that Topi did not approve the appointment of Sokol Nishani, brother of the Interior Minister Bujar Nishani.
