TIRANA, May 29 – President Bamir Topi held a first-ever visit by e president to Kuwait in an effort to boost the already good ties with the Arab country.
Kuwait has opened its embassy in Tirana since October last year and Tirana has also opened a resident office there.
It has been an Arab country where all top Albanian officials have held visits recently.
Albania was part of the world coalition to denounce the 1990 Iraq invasion to Kuwait and since then both countries reinforced ties.
The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has set projects worth $75 million to be carried out in Albania in projects in infrastructure, transport, irrigation and drainage systems.
Topi also met with his highness Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who last year gave 10 million euro for the rehabilitation of the Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square, and other top officials there.
Topi’s visit was hailed by the host for boosting the two countries’ political, investment and cultural ties.
Kuwaiti officials considered bilateral ties as historic and an example of ties between small countries.
Kuwait pays special importance to the southeast European countries and considers Albania having a key role in the region’s stability.
Kuwait has also recognized Kosovo and its officials pledged further lobbying efforts for more recognition from Arab countries.
