TIRANA, Sep 23 – President Bamir Topi urged the opposition to end the parliament boycott saying that the place of the politician is in the parliament.
The contest of the election is no reason to not take part at the parliament, he said in an interview to News24 private television station, because that’s the possibility to debate, to make the contest and also objections. The political parties are responsible for the contested counting process so they should bear the responsibility for that too.
The Albanian political class should cooperate and cooperation should not be only in those cases when one is interested he said.
They should cooperate to catch the time because time is lost with a political debate.
Topi also said that the new proportional system applied in Albania in the June 28 parliamentary election served well in lowering the tension.
But he declined to give a clear-cut response on the election whether they were free and fair saying that the “president cannot give any verdict on the elections.”
He tried to justify the election process also saying that the country is still in transition.
He praised the political parties for agreeing to change the electoral system. He highly appreciated the Albanians’ stand especially during election day.
Problems started during the counting,” he said, adding that people involved in counting should get trained.
“There is a growth of democracy but much remains to be done,” he said.
