TIRANA, Sep 14 – Two medium earthquakes were registered in Albania last weekend with no injuries or any great material damage, according to the Seismological Institute of Albania.
The two consecutive jolts, felt in the mountain regions in Northeast Albania, were of 4.3 and 3.1 magnitude on the Richter scale. They occurred Saturday after 9 p.m. with the epicenter located close to the border of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The tremors were centered at the same place as a strong earthquake with magnitude 5.5 last week that damaged hundreds of houses, as well as schools and hospitals.
The opposition accused the government of paying no attention to the tremor consequences or to the hundreds of people in that area, saying they were delaying the evaluation of the damage and were not offering a proper assistance.
The interior ministry reacted, mentioning figures of tons of food aid and clothing given to the people in that area.
