TIRANA, Nov 16 – Defense Minister Arben Imami made a visit to Washington last week where he met with his US counterpart Robert Gates and also other senior officials of the US administration.
During the half-an-hour talk with Gates Imami talked about Albania’s commitment to NATO’s projects, especially its presence in Afghanistan.
Demilitarization and disposal of the excess ammunition in the former communist country were other main topics of interests in the talks.
Gates thanked Albania for its presence in Afghanistan.
Imami said they would add some more officers to the 240 troops already present there. A new unit was sent to Afghanistan just ahead of elections in the Asian country and following Washington request to all NATO member countries.
