TIRANA, Oct 6 – Local media reported that Polican weapon disposal factory has been supplied with excess ammunition coming from all over the country, a sign that it will now on be committed to disposing that.
In March 15 the ammunition disposal factory in Gerdec near Tirana, a private company, exploded killing 26 persons and injuring 300 others.
That also put into question why the government had chosen a private company to dispose of ammunition and not taken it to Polican and Mjekes plants that are specialized in such a work.
Albania has more than 90,000 tons of excess ammunition dating back up to the 1960s.
