TIRANA, Jan. 24 – heavy rain throughout the country on Wednesday caused different problems from floods to difficulties in the main ports.
A 2,220 ton ship named Odesa threatened to get drowned because of the heavy rain and strong winds in the Durres port. After it couldn’t get into the port it stuck at the Durres beach. The next days it again exploited strong winds to go back to the port. Aleksandros ferry coming from Brindisi, Italy stayed for 12 h0urs into the seas unable to dock in Vlora port. That was the only ferry leaving the Brindisi port because of the strong winds.
In Gjirokastra the Drinos river flooded many areas around and damaged some schools in the city. Hundreds of students in some four or five schools in the city could not follow lessons Wednesday after their buildings were either flooded or seriously damaged.
