ROME, Jan. 23 – Italy held last week a joint meeting of the foreign ministers of Albania and Serbia, noting that their EU membership is of strategic importance for the stabilization and security of the entire Western Balkans.

Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni invited to Rome Albania’s Ditmir Bushati and Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.

Italy has always fought for the goal and will continue to play a major role in this regard, Gentiloni added. The two countries’ “membership in the EU” was a “strategic commitment” for the government in Rome, said Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the end of Italy’s six-month EU presidency.
