TIRANA, July 10 – President Alfred Moisiu, who remains a potential candidate to retain his post, appealed to the Albanian political parties to reconcile their differences for the sake of the country’s interests.

However, Moisiu again said he would not resist running for the presidency for a second time. Often he was mentioned as a candidate by the Socialist Movement of Integration and the Christian Democrats, though his candidacy has not moved beyond that stage.

What is clear is that Moisiu may no longer be a possible candidate as he is strongly opposed by the governing Democrats, who nominated him five years ago, and is not finding strong support by any party from the left.
