TIRANA, Jan. 16 – The opposition’s Democratic Party MP Enkelejd Alibeaj says the party “has provided prosecutors evidence” that the opposition says proves the ties between former Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri and the criminal Habilaj gang.
The documents were given to the Serious Crimes Prosecution this week.
The evidence, he Alibeaj, consists of an international automobile assurance card registered under two names – Saimir Tahiri and Artan Habilaj – for the time period April 2015-2016.
According to Alibeaj, this is an indicator of the cooperation and co-owning of the car, which was used for its immunity to controls when allegedly trafficking drugs locally and internationally.
The evidence serves the continuing investigation of the alleged ties between Tahiri and the Habilaj brothers, who were caught last year by Italian authorities as leading members of an international marijuana trafficking gang.
