The works of Albanian artist Donika à‡ina and Italian-born artist, Hanna Hildebrand, will be brought together through an exhibition that will remain open until Saturday, November 11th, at the Tirana Art Lab.

This exhibition is conceived around the two artists’ practice, which aims to grasp and explore the cognitive process through their experiences in the society they are part of and their encounters with other people. Their focus on the process, be it recognition, understanding or creativity, is the feature that both unites and distinguishes the two artists’ practice. Their aim also consists in simultaneously decoding the process in form, while creating and experiencing it. Visual representations and aesthetic regime are therefore the realms in which they partake, intervene, operate and negotiate with their works. Being aware of the supremacy of form, appearance and aesthetics, their works challenge the visual by continuously questioning it instead of legitimating it.

“As it becomes clear from their statements and works, both à‡ina and Hildebrand try to avoid firm specifications, classifications and explanations. By being paradoxical their works become sites of permanent meaning negations and therefore almost impossible to be colonized or capitalized by power structures” , explains Adela Demetja, famous art-curator.

Donika à‡ina was born in Korà§a, in 1988, and studied arts in Albania, Romania and Germany. She currently lives in Tirana, while her works have been exhibited in numerous expositions, locally and internationally. Hanna Hildebrand was born in Italy and studied in Germany; when she’s not traveling, she lives and works in Berlin.
