TIRANA, June 30 -Former Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, visited Albania last week to deliver lectures and to be awarded medals in two southern Albanian cities.
During the visit Prodi also met with Albanian President Bamir Topi.
Prodi was invited by the private Zoja e Keshillit to Mire University to lecture on European enlargement.
The former Italian premier, also ex-European Commission President, said he is convinced that Europe would not be considered complete unless it accepted in its ranks the western Balkan countries, including Albania, which he said had achieved much during recent years.
Prodi was awarded the Honored Citizen medal in Gjirokastra and also visited Saranda.
Prodi was Italian premier during the anarchic year of 1997 and played a significant role, at the time, in mediating among Albanian politicians. (Tirana Times Staff)
